Crowds = Fun??

Wtw people,

Pulling up to a dead function isn’t the most favorable experience. Majority of people our age would rather pull up to a move that’s bussing and packed out. Makes sense. The amount of people gives us the indication of how the event could potentially turn out, how many people we could socialize with, and how often we can people watch lol. We also look for that amount to show us if the move is “worth” going to.

“If nobody is there frl I might as well not go”...even if I really want to

Some of us can even say the larger the crowd the smaller we can become. I'm referencing social Anxiety meaning there would be enough people that the attention would least likely be on us.

“Uh why are the lights on?”

In addition, we sometimes like going to moves where there’s a big enough crowd simply for the attention. New fit, bet. Just broke up with your bf, bet. Hot girl summer, bet. And some of us just love attention in general lol. I get it. The amount of people at a function is important.

On the flip side, notice how I didn’t give an example of how crowds = fun. That wasn’t mentioned because to me, it’s a myth. My reason is this. A crowd can be 2000 people and you can end up not enjoying yourself. On the small scale a crowd can be 50-100 and with the right people it could be t’d.

Ex. House parties

I’ve seen both happen before. Now I’m not trying to make it seem like this is 100% true in all cases and I’m not against a large turnout. I’ve been to a few packed out parties that were fun. But if you zoom out, and really observe it was because a fraction of the crowd is what gave the party excitement, provided the energy that made the party fun.

The point I’m trying to make is this: crowds don't necessarily equal fun. Us needing a crowd to give us that fun is backwards thinking. Be careful not to fall into this trap. The good thing about us Black people is we can make something out of nothing and to me our fun is more guaranteed if we let loose and only rely ourselves instead of a crowd.

We don’t need a crowd to have fun.
